Remember in the Chapter 1 header

I wrote that “no one would get clean and sober if they couldn’t learn how to stay safe from day-one of their journey …”. One of the signs that a person is not quite ready to make the journey and leave the drugs and alcohol behind is what we’ll call an “addiction ego”. This is the destructive brain pattern that holds people back and keeps them in their disease cycle.

Let’s review the realities again right now.

You are reading these words because you or someone who loves you has found this course and now it’s laid out before you. People do not spend time in our coursework unless they have a history of failure on their own. If alcohol and drugs are not causing you problems in your life or the life of someone you care about, what are you doing here? (We just needed to make that point so we can help you build on it going forward).

Real recovery revolves around one central focus.

You must stay safe.
